2017 Knights Bridge West Block Chardonnay
Initial scents of honeycomb and orange blossoms give way to insistent notes of sweet Meyer Lemon curd, butter and brioche. The wine expands on the palate with explosive flavors of nectarine, pineapple, and quince interwoven with a persistent mineral element of peach stone and wet rock. The oak is perfectly integrated, creating a balanced and creamy texture that finishes lively and firm.
The broad, expansive flavors of West Block Chardonnay work equally well on sea and on land. Try sumptuous pairings such as lobster bisque, scallops with pancetta, or oysters Rockefeller. The assertive flavors of truffle macaroni and cheese, roast pork with sage and honey, or veal chops with capers and brown butter sauce are also excellent culinary partners.
Select fruit from the western sections of Block 9 was hand-picked in the early morning hours of September 9. The grapes were gently pressed and settled, then racked to 100% new French oak barrels for fermentation at cool temperatures. Once primary fermentation was complete, the wine remained in barrel 12 months on fine lees, with gentle bi-weekly stirring after the secondary malolactic fermentation completed, adding complexity, richness and finesse to the finished wine.
